conversation with Ms. Kelly Mentor
at 3:18 PM
ON Wednesday DEC 16.09 was my first conversation with.Ms. Kelly about Senior Project. She convinced me to have 2 sponsors rather than one. I believe its a great idea. I think about my future mostly everyday. I've noticed that children interest me a lot. Therefore, I'm thinking maybe i could be an elementary teacher or an English teacher. I think it would be great if i could see how both things work. I love to learn and even if i do not decide to do either at least i experienced it and tried it. Life is not forever and i might as well try something. Well i really hope everything will work out with my sponsors. Im happy to know i have a mentor who cares about my thoughts and future. Thank you very much Ms. Kelly. Your GREAT.

Text to World THE TALlBAN AND THEIR CRUELTY
Labels: Kite Runner at 5:48 PM

Afghanistan has been beaten and robbed of their freedom to think, speech and do. Women of all are being abused emotionally, mentally, and physically. I read an article on the web that the Taliban was limiting women's rights. They no longer let women go to school or go outside their homes without a male escort. If your thoughts do not agree with theirs, you will be punished or killed.
Mahmooda is part of RAWA's cultural committee which she joined so that she could help stop "the suffering of her ill-fated people." She affirms RAWA's commitment to educating women and girls. Mahmooda believes this act is the most influential way to make women aware of their human rights. She says " "We have concentrated our work on increasing awareness among women and educating [them about] the fact that without freedom and democracy, our land will never achieve prosperity, peace and happiness." These things can only be attained by "decisive struggle against religious fascism and their foreign masters."
After I read her thoughts and beliefs, I remembered how Assef stoned a man and a women to death in front of all these people and some priest who said that we are sinners and we must be punished for our faults. I agree that we should, but no one in this world should be able to judge others. Especially, if you, yourself are not clean. Assef had said he did not join the Taliban for money or power but for justice. Amir said what justice is this raping boys, killing people, stealing peoples rights, limiting freedom. This is not justice, but stupidity and selfishness.
I believe Mahmooda is an inspiration and if she dies trying to make the world a better place on her own will, she is priceless and unique. I read farther in the article that she receives threatening letters everyday and even though they fight her, she fights back. She has had to move numerous times and hide so that she can better her people. Mahmooda and the RAWA committee have made programs where at nights they read stories to women and girls, do crafts and debates. She is happy knowing that her life had a purpose and it makes her smile that her people can be able to express themselves, even if they have to hide to do it.

A new Friend ( FARID) Chapter 19
at 4:03 PM

As chapter 19 enters, a new character as well arrives in Amirs life. Farid is Amir's new friend who takes him through his journey to find Sohrab. Farid is a man who had lost 2 daughters in a mine, lost his 2 fingers, and his father to the war. Although he is a very grumpy and inpatient man, he helps Amir find his past memories and gives friendship to Amir even though at first they disliked each other. Farid is a driver who as well needed a friend. I believe Farid changed towards the end of Amir's journey. He became more open and his perception of people changed only a bit, because of Amir's determination to save Sohrab and give him a better life. This new friendship that Amir made with Farid was a great addition to the story. This new friend helped a long way to Amir's life and Sohrabs.
Marriage TEXT TO SELF CHAPTERZ 10-17
Labels: Kite Runner at 2:43 PM

Later in the end of chapter 12, I read about Amir and Soraya getting married. I remember right after I read the chapter, my mother and I had a conversation about marriage. I explained Soraya's situation to my mother and my she told me if I were born in Mexico and living there, I wouldn't have had the privilege to choose the person I would want to be married to, especially if I were born in the old days in Mexico. My mother explained that if there was a man who wanted to marry me, he would have to bring a huge basket of fruit, gifts, then ask for blessings from my father. My mother said I wouldn't get to decide if I wanted to marry the man. If my father said yes, I would be married without giving my consent. Similar to my mother's description, Baba had to ask Soraya's father if Amir would be suitable to marry Soraya, since General Sahib said yes, Soraya would have to marry Amir, even if she didn't want to. The difference is that Amir's father had to ask for their blessings and not Amir. Also Amir cared if Soraya wanted to marry him, even if her father had said yes. Therefore, I'm grateful to be born Mexican American especially because I'm free to choose who I want to marry.

Soraya Appears
at 1:30 PM

As I was reading through the end of Chapter 11, I noticed that Amir had taken interest in a girl named Soraya, who was the daughter of General Sahib. Toward the end of the chapter Amir says "Lying awake in bed that night, I thought of Soraya Taheris sickle-shaped birthmark, and the way her luminous eyed had fleetingly held mine. My heart stuttered at the thought of her. Soraya Taheri. My Swap Meet Princess." I could tell he had fallen in love. Further on in the book Amir marries Soraya in chapter 12. Amir feels that Soraya is the most understanding, caring women in his life and it gives him joy that she had also had secrets , but had the guts to reveal them to him. Even though she revealed that she had ran away with a man before him, he accepted her, because he also had secrets, but had no courage to say them. Soraya is a wonderful character that brought Amir company and brought love into the book.

Text to Self The Kite Runner
at 4:11 PM
As I was reading the beginning of chapter three, I realized my mother was exactly as Amir had described about Afghanistan's, their tendency to exaggerate. Amir had given an example that this kid had passed his biology test and his parents were already telling everyone that there son was a doctor. Like my mother and my aunts , they exaggerate like there was no tomorrow. There was a day when I started drawling and painting a lot , but my drawings were people with huge heads and flowers that looked like scribbles. My mother started to tell all of my family that I was going to be an artist, because all I did was spend my time drawling. I told my mother I drawled a lot because I didn't know who to draw so i practiced allot so I could get better at it. Furthermore, I got accepted to the People to People Ambassadors Program to travel to Greece, Italy and France and my mother told her family and friends that I had paid 50,000 dollars and that I went to every part of Europe, When I only paid 7,000 dollars and went to 3 countries. I believe every parent exaggerates about their child. In Afghanistan, Mexico, and even here parents always twitch some things about their children, because they're so excited about what their starting to develop or become. Exaggeration happens to all cultures especially mine and as well as Amir's people.

Kite Flying in Afghanistan
at 4:20 PM
I learned that in Afghan culture kids fly kites and compete with other neighborhood children to win respect from kite fliers and others in the town. The game consists of many players and, one by one each kite is demolished by the owner of the kite. Furthermore, the string that is attached to the kite is coated with powdered glass. Players try to cut the string of the other by the pull or release method. When there are only two players left the one who crushes their opponent wins , so then the winner lets go of their kite and runs after it, brings it back in their hands, and wins the fight, gains respect, and the glory. Although, it is fun it is also dangerous, the child is so intrigued in capturing the kite they grow unaware of their surrounding like traffic, roads, trains. Therefore, most children end up hurt because of the chase for the kite.
